We decided to hop the Edmonds –Kingston ferry and head over to the Kitsap Peninsula on a recent sunny Saturday morning. We arrived in Kingston and immediately headed South to Indianola.
Indianola is a small community clearly built around its beach. Most of the homes seem to be summer residences. There are no businesses other than a small local grocery and a few garages that appear to be converted into store fronts for local artisans (although none were open on our visit).
The centerpiece of the community is the long dock that stretches out into the Puget Sound. Apparently there was ferry service to the community until the late 1950’s. You cannot miss the dock or beach access as you drive into town. There are signs saying the beach is for residents only, but we ignored those signs and proceeded to the beach, where the kids played in warm tide pools and you have a great view of the Olympics and Mount Rainier. There were lots of families on the beach, dogs ran freely and everyone was friendly. If you are seeking shopping and dining, Indianola is not a stop for you. However, if you a seeking to explore a new Northwest beach for a few hours, it is worth a stop.

Great idea for a kids’ trip. Thank you for the tip! Sounds like a perfect way to spend a sunny afternoon away from town! )
